I have had this shed for less than one year. High temperatures here in the summer months reach high 90′s with the occasional day at one hundred degrees. This shed is in partial shade during much of the afternoon, yet the heat buckled it so badly that it had to be wired back together—it actually popped apart! It became so warped that the top will not close.

Before that, during the winter, it contracted so much from the cold, (which, at worst, would be about 20 degrees at night) that spaces appeared at all the seams and water and snow went right in.

So, what good is a shed that literally pops apart and is not water resistant?

It is quite expensive and not at all reliable, unless, of course, you live in a mild climate where it is always balmy and never rains or snows.

My wife and I bought a new house with a small 2 car garage and I needed an attractive way to keep the garbage cans outside the garage. This Rubbermaid storage shed fit the bill perfectly. It provides a way for me to store 2 large trash cans outside without the worry of animals getting into them or rain filling the cans. Assembly was a snap (no tools required – took me 5 minutes). My only complaints are that the price was too much and that the plastic slot for the rod that supports the lid in the “up” position was not properly formed and I had to cut away a bit of plastic that escaped the factory mold.

Anyway, it serves its porpose and is fast to assemble so I am glad I have it!

I put my 7×8 shed together in about a weekend. You have to take your time and follow the instructions, but it’s all there. The framing was easy -and I saved a bunch. After purchasing the lumber, the whole shed cost me about 0. I’m very pleased with the quality and proud that I did it myself.

I did a lot of looking around before I chose this storage unit. I wanted something sturdy and weatherproof that I could lock up and put out across the parking lot of the townhouse apartments that I live in. Not enough room on the patio for storage. This went together well, after I read the instructions and is holding up great so far. I drilled 2 small holes to run a u shaped hook through the back and caulked it so I could chain it to a fence back there. So far it is doing well with some very heavy rain, high winds and hot sun. It doesn’t come with the shelves anymore, but I bought a plain wire shelf from rubbermaid’s closet series that fits in there fine. I have lawn chairs and a trimmer and some garden stuff on the bottom and then storage for other small things on top. This was a good value if you shop around for the best price and is made so much better than the cheaper brands that it is well worth it.

I am a 68-year-old woman with almost no mechanical experience or expertise and I was able to get this shed together by myself in less than 30 minutes (a little more than the 15 minutes the box said it would take, but still a respectable time).

The box states that no tools are needed and the instruction sheet specifies that a rubber hammer is needed. I had a rubber hammer; it was helpful but I probably could have gotten the shed together without it. You need a flat surface at least eight feet long and five feet wide, and a wall or other solid surface to push against.

The assembled cabinet is sturdy and very nice looking. I reccomend it.

The description of this book said that the book included plans and instructions for building greenhouses. While it had beautiful photographs of traditional glass greenhouses, which is what I want to build, the “plans” were for plastic covered greenhouses over pvc pipe. Had I been able to “look inside” more of the book, I would have saved my money. This book, while pretty, is functionless. What a disappointment.

This is a 5 star DIY book. The MSRP on the book is 19.99; I paid under 13.00 for it through Amazon Prime. GREENHOUSES AND GARDEN SHEDS is quite the bargain! This book is literally packed with inspiration! Replete with full color pictures, the author gives you step by step instructions on building a variety of styles as simple as a PVC hoop house to a permanent A-frame structure. He explains zoning requirements, lighting, plumbing, building site location recommendations, and the pros and cons of using various building materials; oh geez, just gobs and gobs of great information! It is chock-full of ideas, practical and beautiful. I have not built my dream-house greenhouse yet but now I am chompin’ at the bit to get started.

While experienced craftsmen may not be as impressed as I am with the information in this book, it is perfect for the layperson. The lovely photos feature gorgeous examples of the various types of greenhouses and garden sheds. One cannot help but get motivated to build. The wealth of knowledge shared in this book will educate you. I dare say that even the professional carpenter would be inspired by the beauty and functionality of the designs in this book.

As a bonus the author also includes step by step plans for other easy garden projects such as planter boxes, a coldframe, a potting table, a bench, and a few other goodies. Simple? Yes, but maybe a good way to break yourself in to basic carpentry skills.

This would be a fun book to ‘cozy up with’ on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

This is a solid body storage building exactly as advertised. My goal was to store a mower, trimmer, blower, gas and miscellaneous items. I had to build a shelf (not included) notch it to fit and install it before putting roof in place. It works great for gas and miscellaneous items leaving room for taller items but they must be tilted some. If you have a mower with retractable handles (which I do not) it will fit in this building. (So mower is still out) Other than that it has cleared up the mess in the back and locks the flammables up too.

Be careful to read instructions because it would be very difficult to take pieces apart after clicked into place.

If you are planning to store a mower I would recomend a larger unit just for ease of use. This one is great for a lot of gardening supplies but I think they should provide at least 2 or more shelves.

Relatively easy to assemble. Definitely keeping the weather out. Great for storing long-handled tools, not so great for smaller tools. Needs a wire basket or some other way of storing smaller tools such as clippers and trowels, away from the bottom. I’m hoping to solve that problem, and when I do, I will consider this purchase a success. It’s not as attractive as a wood shed, but for the money, and if you don’t have much space, this is a good solution.

Update, Sept 2009 – we bought one of those “shower accessories” – several wire trays on a pole – modified it just slightly (I think we had to shorten it to fit) and installed it in the back left corner of the shed. That’s where we keep our small tools, and it works well.

There are two other problems with this shed. One, if the wind is really strong (we live on a bay), it can blow over. We used a piece of wood to attach it to the side of the house, and that solved the problem. Two, it’s a favorite place for wasps and hornets to build their nests. Lots of little nooks and crannies, in the ceiling of the shed and inside the doors. It’s not a show-stopper, but if you buy one, keep an eye on it, especially if you have little ones.

Bought this when our Suncast storage box fell apart. From the beginning, this was clearly a sturdy box that was well-designed and easy to assemble. It does the job, looks good, and feels indestructible. I should have gone with Rubbermaid in the first place!

The shed is easily put together, sturdy… what I expected. I didn’t really want the split lid but this unit was far less expensive and so I decided to just go with it. The lid supports are a bit annoying, I’ve had them slip and whack me if I’m not particularly attentive to the way I put them in place. It’s perfectly fine for storing garden stuff which is what I wanted.

I really should have gotten this years ago. I live in an area ruled by home owner association bylaws and building a proper shed was not an option. This product is perfect for small yards, or limited spaces and really does assemble in 15 minutes or less.

Actually, a friend and I had time to not read the instructions, try and assemble it wrong, read the instructions we should have read and then assemble it correctly in less than 15 minutes.

I threw 6 16″ square concrete pavers down as a base and the shed fit perfectly. It is large enough to hold two full size garbage cans, but I use it to hold backyard tools, birdseed, potting supplies and other gardening accessories.

Two spots in the back are fashioned so you can drill the unit to solid vertical surface for additional support, like a fence, or a wall. I’d use a decent size screw/bolt and washers. You can add two shelves in ready-made depressions. Standard wooden shelving boards work fine, but notch the back corners to get it to fit correctly.

There is a plastic hasp for a lock, so if you’re worried about someone other than a kid poking through your stuff, the plastic hasp is not going to stop a serious thief and will give them less trouble to cut than the lock you put on it.

I like it, but if you’ve got security issues and stuff you would hate to lose, keep your valuables in something where the lock mechanism isn’t part plastic.

Got this shed for 2 big one$. I wish it were a hundred as some other reviewers reported back in late 07. Price seems to move often because it went to 350 a few days after I received mine. Speaking of receiving, the shipper was CEVA and although it was very fast the package arrived exploded. The eight pieces (amazon’s description says 7) were held together by the packaging strap with the cardboard flapping around it. It does not come with two wire shelves as amazon’s description claims. Assembly was REALLY easy… uncomforatbly easy. Took longer to move the pieces from the garage to the backyard. Pieces are very light and somewhat flimsy feeling. Assembled the unit seems only a little sturdier. I wouldn’t put it somewhere it might be really windy especially if it were empty. I’m sure if it tipped over it would explode in to its 8 pieces. I have had several Suncast storage sheds in the past and those seem sturdier than the Rubbermaids. Although Suncast’s are more work to assemble. One thing I don’t like is that the door stays closed basically by pressure. There are no latches to ensure it stays secure. Not a problem as long as the door doesn’t lose its snug fit over time. The doors are really light. Putting a lock on won’t keep anyone out that really wants to get in. It does do the job of storing backyard and garden junk while being pretty low profile. The size if great for the side of a house since it isn’t that deep just make sure you have enough room to open the doors.

If you know nothing about shed building, then this is the book for you. It has step-by-step instructions from scratch. You can build it! really, I did and I am a female with no knowledge about construction.
